Hi guys. Was wondering if anyone can help me. Had my laproscopy on Nov 25th. I wasn't given any after care whatsoever. All I know is what my doctor told me when I went last week. I'm 29 now soon to be 30. I haven't got any children but I do want to think about having children in the near future. How hard is it to conceive with endo? I'm quite worried about not being able to. It would destroy me. Does anyone know of ways to increase fertility or the rates of infertility. Any info would be much… read more
There are a number of factors that can affect fertility, in addition to endometriosis (e.g. age, heredity, general health, etc.). The only way to truly know your likelihood of conceiving is to meet with a fertility specialist. Your gyno should be able to refer you to one. That being said, here's what I know from talking with my gyno:
-since most women with endo are on some type of contraceptive to stop ovulation, you need to talk with your doctor about your desire to conceive and a timeline for when to (temporarily) go off your birth control. I've read that it can take months after going off to start ovulating, again.
-if your endo was on you ovaries and/or fallopian tubes, scar tissue (adhesions) can SOMETIMES affect their functioning and your ability to get pregnant naturally. My doc said it's common for women with endo to use fertility treatments, such as IVF, to get around this.
