How Likely Is It That My Endometriosis Will Be Cured After My Hysterectomy?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am 28 years old, and underwent a radical hysterectomy on July 28th, wherein they also removed endometriosis from muscle tissue and from organs in the area. Does anyone here know how likely it is that my endometriosis will go away? My doctor asked me to wait another six weeks before starting any hormone replacement therapy so that the remaining endometriosis is killed.

I have wondered this myself! TONS of articles that I have read say that finding a Dr that will cut the tissue and implants out along with the hysterectomy is key so I'm really crossing my fingers for you! My hysterectomy is coming up soon and I'm so relieved that I have FINALLY found a Dr. that has a good understanding and knows what needs to be done. Please let us know how it goes! *hugs*

the book I have states that endo is benign tumors, and the books acknowledges how anyone with endo would ask 'benign?! try again!' It describes endo like skin cancer; if they do not get all of the affected tissue and surrounding tissue just to be safe, it can come back. Endo does not need ovary's or a uterus to grow; if it is already there, it makes it's own estrogen. Hormonal treatment represses it... but the only way to 'kill' it, is to remove the affected tissue. Some lady's have had endo cells and spots found on the diagram because it can spread. if your pain returns but is in illogical areas... tell the doc so they can treat it.

Lonnie,

Thank you! They did excise the endometriosis, and removed it from other organs that it was attached to.

Best,

Hysterectomy alone is 50/50, if they do excursion while in there it increases the results dramatically.

Ashleydunagan1303,

Thank you! I am saying prayers and sending you good thoughts and hugs! I am hoping that cutting out the tissue works as well. Let me know how your hysterectomy goes, and if you have any questions about pre-op or post-op. I'm not a doctor, and I can only give advice from my experience. Sometimes it helps to hear from the people who've gone through it. I'm here. Thank you again!

Best,
Savannah
