How Do You Deal With Endo And Working? Does Anyone Go On Disability For Their Condition?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm curious, because I have had issues with employment in the past due to mine, and now I clean homes so I can make my own schedule. Even then, I have had sudden flare ups while in the middle of a job. It's at times, defeating. I hate that this condition seems to control your whole life.

I'm currently in graduate school and I work as a research assistant. As long as my work gets done when he asks for it, my professor generally doesn't care if I work from home or in the office, what days and hours, etc.-- and endo has still caused me trouble at work. I don't know what I would do if I had to hold down a regular job right now, much less a physical one. For example, last week I didn't get something done on time because my fatigue was so bad I couldn't stay awake/out of bed very long, and he was not happy with me. He knows about my condition and tries to be understanding (he has a sister with a chronic illness), but the work has to get done. It really is defeating, because I try so hard. My understanding is that endometriosis is not a condition that disability will cover, but I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure I brought on another flare-up today while cleaning my apartment, so I admire you for cleaning multiple homes. I know it's frustrating to have endo interfere with so much of your life. 💛

I'm lucky enough to have been blessed with my daughter, Even though it took til I was 31 and a miracle. For that reason alone, I do a lot of bent over walking(if that makes sense) and holding my heating pad against my abdomen. I have no choice but to move at times, because she is only 2. I think of doing that, and imagine being at a actual job in the same position and it's just impossible sounding. @A MyEndometriosisTeam Member Thank you for the reaponse! Sounds like you got a convenient position and glad you have an understanding professor. With those situations you just want to be the best you can be, and when this, curse of a disease, slows you down, it makes you feel worthless at times. When you find that one person who gets it, it helps so much.
