Is There Any Way To Medically Get An Indication Of Your Fertility, Without Actually Trying To Get Pregnant?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have known from a very young age that the biggest dream in my life is to be a mother. To be pregnant, to create life. I literally dream about it.

Note, I do not see this in a naive / romanticised light as I helped raise my two nephews.

I'm in a loving serious relationship and we know that we want to have children together, but we also know that we don't want that now.

I am newly diagnosed, and from what I've researched, the only way to know if you have fertility issues is to actually try… read more

Have a consultation with a fertility specialist. They can do a hsg test to check your tubes. They can check your ovarian reserve through bloodwork. Also have your hormone levels at different times in your cycle. This can give u some insight

That's correct, you won't know for sure unless you try.

You can go to a reproductive endocrinologist or fertilty specialist. There are a number of tests (blood tests and others for you and a semen analysis for your boyfriend). Even if your hormone levels and his sperm are ok, you could still deal with unexplained infertility. But there are other things that can be done (iui, ivf, etc), if needed. And you can also freeze your eggs or his sperm or both now for later.

Don't feel alone; these days many women are being proactive about their fertility.

I had a laparoscopy about a week ago, my dr knew beforehand that my partner and I wish to try for a baby, so he did his best to keep my ovaries (which he did) and he did dye studies of my Fallopian tubes. This just determines their patency, making sure they are fully open basically. Have you had surgery? This is probably the next best thing to actually trying and falling pregnant before you are ready!
Hope this is a little bit helpful, best of luck to you 😊

Thank you Rea (I'm new to this site and can't seem to tag you so I hope you see this)

I hope you're recovering well from your surgery.

I had a laporoscopy just over a week ago, for a completely unrelated appendectomy and that's how they found the endo. But it was an ER doctor who doesn't specialise in the field and so I don't have many answers at the moment. I am speaking to my gynecologist on Monday and hopefully he'll have more answers for me :)
