Anyone Have Issues With Hypothyroidism As Well As The Endo
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I started suffering from severe menstrual pain when I was 15. Sadly, it took some time to find my "diamond in the rough" doctor and last year after surgery and I was diagnosed with stage IV endometriosis. To some extent my endo is managed (it's still a work in progress). But, for several months I have been extremely tired, crazy mood swings from depression to constant anxiety. My hands are dry and my fair is very brittle. Back in '15 I had my blood work tested for thyroid function. Turns… read more

Yes! I was diagnosed with both in May. I'm hypo- I find working out helps, even when tired, I tough through it and it gives me energy. Does not help with pain, like most people say... but it does give me energy.

I was diagnosed with Hypo about 9 years ago, and I agree-finding an endocrinologist who will run the full panel is important. Also- my doc will treat very aggressively to keep the TSH level down. A lot of people don't experience symptom relief even at a "normal" TSH of 2 or 3. We keep mine around 1.8 and I have no symptoms. I just began having symptoms of endo about 9 months ago, so I'm not sure if there's any relation there. It's hard having two chronic conditions, hang in there!

Definitely find yourself a doc who will run a FULL thyroid panel! T4 and T3 as TSH in my experience tells you absolutely nothing. My journey has been the opposite of yours hypothyroid first and just now being diagnosed with endometriosis. Junior year of high school I became debilitated by fatigue and it took over a year of all sorts of doctors before they found hypothyroidism. My TSH levels have ALWAYS been either normal or high regardless of what my actual thyroid (T4 and T3) were doing. Even after diagnosed thyroid has to be monitored every 6 month as it changes and dosage as to be changed accordingly. My thyroid levels have fluctuated all over the place over the past 10yrs. And no matter how badly my T3 or T4 levels were out of wack my TSH was either normal or high (90% of doctors will tell you you have no thyroid issue with those results).

I've had my share of doctors over the years following fibromyalgia diagnoses, gastric issues and now endo. I would say first and foremost educate yourself. A quick search on google will give you a gist of the relation between T4 and T3. I'd say go in and explain your reasoning (TSH can be normal even when actual thyroid levels are wacked) and ask for a full thyroid panel to be run. If they don't do it, without giving you a good reason, I would honestly find another doctor.
Between my various issues I have had my fair share of doctors telling me it was in my head when tests came up "normal." I never stick with any doctor who doesn't believe my symptoms are real, and have never regretted leaving when I do go. Go in educated on the issues, push for what you want, and a lot of the time they are willing to work with you or offer a different theory for what's going on. I've been pleasantly surprised by a number of doctors. But by the same token I never say with a doc once I hit the "it's all in your head" euphemisms. Your health is too important!
