Is The Mirena Coil Worth It?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I had a laparoscopy a few weeks ago and they fitted the coil at the same time. I haven't stopped bleeding since and have had quite a lot of pain. I was just wondering if this will ease? I've heard a lot of negative things about the coil, and I really didn't want it in the first place but got pressured into it.

Im about to have the mirena, true they do insist before laparoscopy but I refused. They were not impresssed, but its my body! Now I feel worse so will try it as a last resort.. if you’re not happy just get it removed.. I might advise to try it out a few more weeks as they say it takes time to setllt but if you’re in pain it might not be worth it.. make an appointmet with the person who fitted in, asap! Xx

Well my experience of it is as follows;

I got my coil due to the consultant recommending, I didn't really want it done myself but it was an option that was worth trying to stop the pain.

I had this fitted in April, the postive thing about it for me is it stopped my bleeding fully and I have not had any since.
However the bad side of it is, it still causes me pain and when I am in pain, I have a sensation that my coil is being ripped out. (So I am in the process of thinking about my options.)

If you feel it's not beneficial for you, it can be taken out at any time. However I would say you need to wait a few month for it to settle as at the moment your body and is getting used to a foreign object in the body which is not usually there, so it was take some time to settle and the hormones to balance out.

Hope this helps.

Big hugs. 💛

There are horrible stories for every contraception going, but everyone is different and our bodies agree and disagree with different procedures. as I experienced a lot worse with the pill and implant. I don't partially like the coil and the but it's stopped my bleeding completely so I'm thankful I don't have to deal with that.:)

Each to there own with choices and decisions and I respect the fact some woman don't like the thought of it and have heard stories.
