Depo-Provera
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I received my first Depo a couple of months ago. The first 6 weeks or so were brilliant, I had minimal pain but then I had a very painful, heavy and long period. It ended about 2 weeks ago but I have had spotting every day since. Has anyone else had this experience on Depo??

I think this is a pretty common thing. It could take several months for your period to get regulated and most likely eventually stop. I was on the depo for 5 years. No period, no pain. I remember my body didn’t really regulate itself out until after the second shot. So just hang in there! Also, just so you are aware bc I had no clue... using depo long term can cause bone density loss. If your gyno is wanting you to stay on this long term (if it ends up working for you) , then they should be doing bone density tests every so often. I’m not sure if it’s every year or every two years. I didn’t know this and my gyno never told me about it so I never got tested the 5 years I was on it. Luckily, I don’t think it affected my bone density. But it’s definitely something you should be aware of and ask your doctor about checking every so often!
