Excision Surgery Cost
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Anyone have any idea how much excision surgery will cost? I have insurance but I wanted to know about how much I will still have to pay out of pocket. I live in the USA unfortunately. Thanks!

It would depend on what needs to be done.Laps can cost as little as a couple of thousand up to $5000.I am sure with bowel work etc.. it could get expensive. But what the hospital charges and insurance is alot of difference.I just had 2 surgeries a rough estimate the hospital wanted $35000 they got like $18000 my part was like $3000.The are rough numbers give or take.I hope this helps.

Hey @A MyEndometriosisTeam Member. That gamble is a rough one. It has been for us, especially when I had to quit my job because of the constant stabbing pelvic pain. I think it comes down to running things to ground, following your doctor's advice, and taking a leap of faith. It seems like most patients still have some residual pain after surgery. The biggest thing is setting realistic expectations ... the thing "hope for the best, plan for the worse."

Ironically, I just spoke with insurance yesterday about my potential excision surgery. With our insurance, my personal deductible is $2500. After I meet that I pay 30% coinsurance until I reach my maximum individual out of pocket which is $7500. I know already we will be paying at least $6k if not the full $7500 for my surgery (bowel, bladder, ovary & cervix removal [my uterus is already gone) and a whole lot more are involved. :( )

I am debating if it's worth it!! I feel guilty spending that kind of money on something that *hopefully* will make me feel better long term. I'm struggling.

For in-network surgeons, my out patient laparoscopy was I think $40,000 total billed to insurance. Two night stay after laparotomy was $80,000 billed to insurance.

What you pay largely depends on your deductible and if the doctor is in-network. I would imagine a couple of thousand if insurance plan is suited for ppl with health issues (as opposed to plans with higher deductibles that are suitable for healthy folks who never go to doc.)
