I am having my historectomy done in the next few weeks. I have people saying it will change my life but I read all these women saying that the struggle continues even after surgery. Is that just a certain percentage of people with additional complications or unique situations or is that all endometriosis patients who have a historectomy?
I had a full hysterectomy 6 years ago and have no pain but I have had other complications . However, I wouldn't change my decision. It's been great to have no pain.
I hear some say they get better; others say no improvement. Endo is not a disease of the uterus. But if you have adenomyosis, then a hysterectomy will likely help. Some endo patients have had hysterectomies but still have multiple endo surgeries down the road.
Are they doing excision during the hysterectomy? Is your doctor a true vetted excision specialist (only about 100 in the world) like ones listed in Nancy's Nook on Facebook?
The extent of the surgery will depend on what he finds. He will try to leave an ovary to keep me from going into menopause but I have cysts so that depends as well. I was initially going to do the laproscopic with laser treatment on the endometriosis until we found the cysts and fibroids. I've never wanted kids so it seems silly not to just take it out and be done with it all but I actually want to be done not have to have additional surgeries.
