Birth Control With Endo
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hey everyone
I was diagnosed with endo in Sep of 2018 after I had laparoscopic surgery due to years of pain. I have been on so many different combination birth control pills because my gyno's first instinct each time I came back due to pain, was to switch my BC rather than looking further into the problem.

So after the laparoscopy he immediately took me off combination pills and I am now on a progesterone only pill (Norethindrone) and it has caused me to break out like crazy. Before this new… read more

I was on progesterone only pill twice daily and it was okay, didn’t do my mood any good though. That was for two years post op in 2016. Had a mirena coil fitted last September and it’s done me well so far. I haven’t had children yet so it was very painful to put in. But my mood has been much better and I’ve not had too many side effects, just a small amount of bleeding and cramping. It seems worth it after the first month while it settles! Hope this gives you some hope for the coil working for you too. Hugs x

I used Nuva Ring and other than bad side effects the first two months (they ultimately went away) it was so worth having regulated hormones that also reduced the hormone sensitive endometriosis.

I had to go on a progesterone only pill because of my migraines and pelvic pain, then I did the Skyla.... my skin became SO BAD. I had cystic acne like crazy. And my pelvic pain became worse. So after two years on the IUD, I got it removed and went back on a combo pill (currently on Yaz). My acne has cleared up almost completely. Sooo you may be like me and need some estrogen in your system for your skin. Unfortunately, we're both in a catch 22 with that, being that estrogen feeds endo, but also helps with acne. It's tricky.

I got the Mirena inserted november last year, and it reduced my pain a lot! Some side effects the first weeks, but worth it. I haven't had children either. 🌸
