Orilissa
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was recently diagnosed after having laparoscopy 3 weeks ago to help confirm. I am now awaiting my appointment scheduled for the 17th to insert the Mirena, IUD. I am no longer able to safely use oral contraceptives due to the harm they started putting my body and hormones in. The IUD is my only option i learned but was told id possibly be a good candidate by my GYN adding in the Orilissa to alleviate my symptoms , too.

I learned about it initially working at my pharmacy. & becoming eager to… read more

I just started Orlissa this week ( a little nervous about it since it sounds so similar to Lupron and Lupron was not a fun time ) but just something to keep in mind if you are thinking about Orlissa my doctor told me you cant be on any form of hormonal birth control methods while on that pill. So theres the Mirena IUD which is hormonal and then the copper IUD that is non hormonal so Ive been told I could have that one for just plain birth control since Orlissa technically isnt BC. Just something I would have liked to know beforehand when I was weighing out my options!

I absolutely love my Mirena - I haven't had a period in almost 3 years. I do go through waves of my cysts (PCOS) getting worse than I did before I had it inserted, but overall the rest of my symptoms have improved.

I'm nervous about the iud as it is & have hopes on the Orilissa as i feel its one of my only hopes to relieve my pain & symptoms. Id literally be okay if we got my pain level & symptoms to a state i can function thru at work & home compared to what its hit now.

Yes - my gyno & i are aware. Im actually intolerant to hormonal birth controls now (after the years of trial & error i had to do ) & cannot take them anymore. Which is why I'm having to get the IUD as its seeming to be our only option. She was however double checking my chart to make sure id be a good candidate for the Orilissa given my history & its safety to use in combo with the IUD. So im not 100% sure her decision yet & she needed to place the iud before any other treatment is able to be added.

Thats extremely helpful. Im so unsure if this is the best option for me but honestly its the safest & only option my gyno strongly advises we can do. I'm now intolerant & cannot use oral contraceptives anymore after years of trial & error. & using nothing like i was will put me back in an OR guaranteed in less than a year seeing i already have stage 3 at this point with worsening periods by the month. & right now we need avoid that as long as possible.

Sorry for the flood of details lol but thanks again.
