Bleeding In A Little Pain While Taking Visanne
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi, I am 24 and I was diagnosed with endometriosis 1.5 months ago by ultrasound. I have one cyst on both ovaries, one of them 6 cm and other one is 4 cm. My gynecologist suggest me laparoscopical surgery or taking Visanne and I chose taking Visanne. Everything was fine till the last week and I've had no side effects. However, last week I started bleeding. It is small amount and not like menstrual bleeding but it did not stop and gives me pain just like a period. Is this normal, what should I do?

6cm cyst is quite big. Mine was 12cm, during the 1st lap they made it to about 5cm (they didn't want to damage the ovary by taking it all out) but now 3 months after the surgery, the cyst is already 8cm.. (I've been on Visanne during this time).
I saw 2 endo specialist surgeons after that (as 1st lap was done by someone inexperienced) and they said that it is almost impossible for cyst this big to go away on its own - it will keep growing even with hormonal treatment. My leading doctor now booked 2nd lap to remove the cyst completely and will try to save the ovary.

I would talk to your gyno again. Based on my experience I weighted the risk of the cyst bursting, the pain and that the bigger it gets, the more difficult it will be to operate.
The surgery might actually increase your chances of successful pregnancy. If you have a cyst this big, it is likely that there's other stuff going on in your pelvic area (i.e. adhesions) so addressing these through an op might help.
I'm sure you know most of this already having so many women around you with endo. But I would definitely talk to your doctor again to understand short and long term risks and benefits based on what your situation is.

May I ask why you chose medication over exploration surgery? I ask because there’s no way to know the extent of what’s really wrong from an ultrasound. I had several, which did show cysts. But until I had my surgery, they couldn’t precisely know what was going on.

You may want to check with some of the ladies on this site! For many, surgery helped clean out what has been damaged to allow for pain relief and conceiving (if that’s a goal).

You are right but I was scared of having a surgery because I was told that having a lap might cause some damage in my ovaries and reduce fertility. However still I cannot be sure whether I made the correct decision or not. Next month I’ll go to control and see if it is work or not:(

Yes I've had that bleeding also. My doctor tells me it comes from the Endometriosis. I had many ultrasounds done as well and I have a few cysts as well. Hopefully they can get to the bottom of it
