I had excision surgery last May, almost 8 months ago. My doctor removed a cyst and scraped out the endo she found around my tubes and ovaries. She said it looked good afterwards, and they even checked for blockage inside my tubes. They gave me the okay about having children and everything sounded good. I'm on a birth control pill to keep the endo from coming back too quickly, but I still feel like I'm experiencing the chronic fatigue and breast pain and muscle soreness that I had with the endo… read more
I'm wondering if your doctor removed everything thoroughly? Did she check all areas of the pelvis besides your ovaries and tubes? Some doctors use the term excision interchangeably with other terms. If she told you that birth control is necessary to prevent it coming back and only checked around your ovaries I would question her skill level. Can I ask what Dr did your surgery? There could also be other things besides endo causing pain still. I'm sorry you're not getting any relief yet. I had lots of lower back pain from endo on my uterosacral ligaments.
Some doctors do excision which means cutting the tissue out with cold tools, but may not find all of the growths. So there's no way of really knowing how thorough the exision is, but you can check the Facebook group Nancy's Nook Endometriosis Education to see if she's on their list of excision surgeons.
Many surgeons actually do excision but very, very few are highly skilled enough to do extremely thorough excisions, which is really unfortunate. They have to be able to identify even microscopic growths. If you haven't already done pelvic floor physical therapy you should definitely try that, they can examine your pelvic floor to see if it's tight & pulling on your back.
A pain management clinic can also help with chronic pain. An organic, anti-inflammatory, low estrogen diet helps a LOT with pain as well. And you can always send your medical records to a Nancy's Nook dr to see if they think your surgery was thorough enough & ask if they're familiar with your surgeons skill level. I would do all of the above. I hope this helps!
Persistent fatigue and aches are symptoms of endo sadly. I had to improve my diet and exercise to get my energy up and it helps with pain as well
My doctor was Serene Srouji at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. She is a specialist in Gynecology and Reproductive Biology and she was so kind and a great doctor. I was talked through everything and even got to keep a copy of my surgery notes and pictures. I truly believe they did the best they could have done there because my deep pain is gone. I just find myself with lingering side effects kind of. I know it might come back, so I know it could be that, but I really think they did do a thorough excision. She even explained to me why ablation doesn't work and took the time to check for blockage in my tubes since my biggest concern was being able to have a baby. Thank you for your input on my question!
