Symptoms Returning
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

5 months post diagnostic and excision surgery, 2 months on combined pill and I can feel little niggles returning. I thought it was in my head at first but the pain is coming back slowly but surely. Has anyone else experienced endo coming back so quickly?
I’m feeling pretty deflated because after the surgery the difference in my symptoms was utterly life changing!

Hi, sorry I haven’t been back on here for a while. But I really appreciate all the help and information given. I will research the supplements and talk to my GP once the wedding has happened and I can focus my attention back onto my health.
I really appreciate you all taking to time to help.
Thank you.

@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member - Ohhh that is a concern about the acne and that sounds really stressful to be dealing with all of this while planning a wedding. Other things that have helped me with pain are an anti-inflammatory diet high in antioxidants and anti-Inflammatory foods like berries, dark leafy greens, turmeric & ginger, & low to no alcohol, caffeine, sugar, fried foods, processed foods, or inflammatory vegetable oils: hydrogenated or soy, corn, canola, grapeseed, safflower, sunflower, peanut or sesame. Use olive, avocado, walnut, and flax only.

Green juice with turmeric and ginger helps me. Supplements that help with endometriosis include NAC, which studies show can reduce the size of endometriomas, DIM which helps metabolize estrogen into a better form than estradiol, so it might really help you since you're taking estradiol in the birth control, and anti-Inflammatory supplements like quercetin, pycnogenol, decaffeinated green tea, ginger & turmeric.

I also recommend reading the book It Starts with the Egg, there's research based advice on supplements for improving egg quality for endometriosis. Supplements have to be started at least 4 months before trying to conceive to make a difference in egg quality.

Oral, topical & vaginal suppository CBD also helps me with pain. Vici Essentials has a 2,000 mg topical for abdominal wall and back pain, Foria Wellness has 100mg vaginal suppositories which can be cut to change the dose, and look for 50+ mg per day for oral CBD, which takes several weeks to start working. Check with your Dr before trying CBD or any new supplements.

Hopefully something will work for you & you won't need another surgery too soon. If you do make sure the surgeon has good reviews in Nancy's Nook Endometriosis Education group on Facebook.

Do you know what stage or where/how widespread your endo was?

What I have to offer is only anecdotal and based on things I have read, but food for thought:

Most times endo doesn't reoccur; most times some was missed the first time.

I am learning that endo comes in all different colors and stages, so much so that some doctors are thinking that there are multiple types (with different causes). It is actually very hard to identify all endo tissue. Often, lesions that were very small were hard to find, but have since grown larger.

In either case, it sounds from the stories I have heard that either true recurrence or oops-missed-some happens the most often with wide spread or deeply infiltrating endo.

In all cases, my thought would be a second opinion with someone who specializes in *just* endo. If it looks different than classic endo, they're more likely to recognize it. If it is more aggressive, they are more prepared to treat it. I am personally partial to the icarebetter network of surgeons, as they are peer AND patient vetted, so you have more of a chance of getting a skilled endo specialist than seeing someone who just thinks they're really great and they can handle it.

But. . . With a wedding in a couple months, I'm somehow guessing there's stress and also no room on the to-do list before doctor shopping. Maybe the plan is more how to control the symptoms until you're ready to go looking more?

Thank you for replying. The doctor I had was reluctant to prescribe the progestin only pill due to my cystic acne as its been known to exasperate it. And I struggle to keep it under control as it is. I was worried someone would say this. I would consider the hormonal iud but im getting married in a couple months and then hopefully trying our chances at children, so the coil seems like a pointless option at the moment.
I am only now learning the gravity of this condition.
