I wasn't ever officially treated for endometriosis because they didn't find it til they were doing the total hysterectomy. I am wondering if it is possible to still have problems with it even though everything was removed. I know the doctor said she didn't want me on hormones long term because it would make what she might have missed come back but I haven't been using hormones and I'm starting to have a lot of the pains and other symptoms again. Members confirmed that endometriosis can absolutely persist or return after a total hysterectomy, with several sharing personal experiences of recurrence ranging from one year to nearly a decade after surgery, and some discovering endo had spread throughout the abdomen despite removal of reproductive organs. Many discussed the complex challenge of hormone therapy, with some doctors recommending progesterone-only medications like Visanne to prevent regrowth while others advised avoiding hormones altogether, leaving members caught between conflicting medical advice and the reality of managing pain. A recurring theme was the frustration of being told a hysterectomy would solve the problem only to find the disease returned, along with encouragement to advocate fiercely for proper care, seek specialists who truly understand endometriosis, and explore all pain management options including clinical trials.

Absolutely.... It's NEVER totally gone.... Could I suggest you just TRY the hormones? They could help with the pain....

I am on a drug called Visanne, it is progesterone only, as estrogen makes the endo grow. I asked my specialist about hysterectomy as a cure, he said it wouldn't work. As much as I don't want to be on this drug, it keeps it from growing.

Yes!!! I did not get diagnosed with endo until a year after my total hysterectomy! Imagine how pissed off I am, that I thought I did the radical thing and took care of any possible gyno problems to only get more! So frustrating...
