I'm having laparoscopic surgery on Friday. And my doctor had gone over the whole process, but I'm starting to get super nervous, and just wondering what the "recovery" process is like?

I am day 4 post op. Your shoulders and neck are going to hurt sooooooo bad. Your throat might too. Expect to be very sore. I wasn't able to wash my hair and had to have my sister do it for me. Have a "huggy buddy". A pillow to keep on your stomach. If you have to cough, sneeze, burp, etc.....hug it! It helps a lot. And most importantly, take it easy! Most docs say you'll be fine after a week or 2. Definitely not! Give yourself 3-4 weeks. Everyone recovers differently. And have plenty of sweatpants on hand. Loose fitting comfortable pants will be your best friend. Good luck!

My recovery was absolutely horrible but im not going to try and scare you ...I just had a lot that was done internally and with some other circumstances, It just didn't end up a fun time. The process itself is easy though! going into it, you have to stay positive !! I wasn't nervous at all pre op and just kind of remembered these people are here to help, not make things worse. it's a little stressful because you may or may not come out diagnosed with endometriosis, but once you have that diagnosis you can begin your journey in helping your body fight the disease. Take it easy and think positive!! It's only for about two or three days that you'll feel the worst and then from there time speeds up again and you'll be back to normal before you know it! Good luck and best wishes on a speedy recovery!

Everyones experience is different and I think that is important to remember. My laparoscopy was my first surgery and I think the anticipation and all the terrible stories I heard was the worst part. I was so scared and anxious before but the good thing to know is that surgery pain is definitely not as bad as your endo pain.

It does hurt to cough, I was nauseous for a while, I had pain in my shoulders for about 4 days but I slept a good portion of the first 3 days of my surgery so I felt like my experience wasn't as bas as some that I have heard. My best friend for the first week was an ice pack and painkillers. And I will say that having your first bowel movement after your surgery isn't going to be a fun experience so definitely make sure that you take some stool softeners.

But if you have a comfortable place to rest where you don't have to walk up and down stairs, take the meds the doctors give you, and use an ice pack ...you'll be just fine :) Good luck!

I got gas pains straight after surgery I actually felt like I had a boob job instead of lap but later that evening I was fine peppermint helps. I was lucky enough to go home the same day just look up bowel prep is my main advice if your not already doing it, your body will thank you in the days after. Get really loose clothing the least thing touches off the scars will make you jump! I was a bit still for a week after but took me 6 weeks to fully recover I'm now 8 weeks post op and still not 100% but take it easy your body will tell! I actually said the surgery pain was nothing compared to endo pain surgery pain was easier for me. Also day of op is the best. You will sleep all day and not remember a thing! Enjoy recovery set up books and some tv series you would like to get in on. Even though your in pain it's nice to have the time to sit at home and not have to do a single thing for a couple of weeks! Part of me sorta looks forward to the next secretly purely because I was spoilt rotten for 4 whole weeks!! Reality is hard after recovery haha!

Like the other ladies said it is painful but not unbearable. I've had 3 and my 1st one was done at 16 yrs old and I went in like you really nervous expecting bad pain and long recovery. I had my surgery at 8am and was discharged around 5pm that day home. My doctor made sure to give me strong enough pain meds for the first few days and lighter ones for the remainder so I wasn't out of it. The worst pain I remember was when I 1st tried to pee and all that came out was blood which scared me but I was warned of that happening when you first pee after surgery. The pain from sitting down right on that area was so bad I had to have my Mom help hold me up in a weird way to pee plus the 4 surgical sites were bleeding from the pressure I was putting due to straining. Otherwise the gas pain is bad. They fill you up with gas when your under to see better and that gas doesn't get out unless you relieve yourself so I would get weird gas pains in my neck, chest, back and stomach. Other than that each day got better and it really helps getting up and trying to walk around even a little bit. Don't sit the entire time try to get up every few hours and walk around ! Try to not worry, these surgeries are very common and you'll be in great hands!
