Does Anyone Have A Way Of Dealing With Negatove Responses From Coworker, Friends And Family?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I thought I could talk to this one girl about what I have been going through. Her respond was that it wasn't that bad and her cousin went through the same thing. As soon as her cousin had her first kid she was fine. I was stunned. (My doctor mentioned to me only some women find relief after pregnancy. Every women is different.) Her response to my quick fix was to have a kid. She's pretty much made me feel like I can't talk to anyone but my husband and doctor. And sometimes I feel my husband… read more

So many people do the "my cousin's sister's best friend's mom had that and she did this and it was fixed". If you have scientific data to back it up, they are more likely (but still not very likely) to listen. I often worry that I burden my husband too much and my family thinks I'm a drama queen. I found one friend who stepped out of the woodwork as the most patient, kind person ever and listens every time I need to complain and it had made a world of difference. You just need one. And, thankfully, social media means you can find lots of people in support groups who understand! Best of luck. Don't let the naysayers ger you down!

People can be so judgmental!! I was diagnosed at 17 and told then that I would probably never have children...I have 3 children now. With each one of my pregnancies I felt so much better but after birth it has always come back. With my first child, it took about a year or so for the pain to get bad again. My second it was a little longer but my third child, it came back with my first period...it wasted no time. Everyone's body is different!! No one knows but you and your doctor (and sometimes they don't even get it) what you are going through! So sorry for peoples ignorance on this disease. Stay strong sister!! ✌️

You should tell your friend that everyone's endo is different (pain and symptoms too) and she really can't compare you to her cousin! Even if you upset her,so be it! She will then think when she opens her mouth in future! And as for her sisters endo going when she was pregnant..ok so her body has had a rest from periods for 9 months but the endo will just start up again when she has her periods?? I used to suffer really bad with pain from the endo but once I had laser surgery I was like a new person..push for laser surgery xx

@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member Thank You so much for the info on EMDR. This is definately something I want to look into because obviously I'm having unhelpful thought patterns on top of my depression. I definately think it is a grieving process I'm starting to really notice and go through, plus I was warned this post grieving could happen after my surgery. And my doctor was dead on because I for sure have that grieving process really kicking in. Plus it doesn't help when my best friend is pregnant and even though I'm genuinely over the moon happy and excited for her I'm also struggling to be around her. Everytime I see her and how much her bump grows it takes everything in me not to break down and cry. In a way it's almost like I have post traumatic stress from this and lately seeing or being around pregnant women kills me. I really look forward to researching about EMDR and finding a doctor or maybe my psychiatrist could help me with all this. Thanks again for your helpful input and well wishes!! I wish you well also! :)

It is very uplifting to have the support of all of you ladies.
When the girls at work heard that I was diagnosed with endo, one of them told me "you better hurry up and have a baby while you still can." I am only 20 years old but her comment has haunted me now for weeks.
