Yes - 3 times! I had a failed attempt to fit the Mirena coil in the GP's surgery where they tried for nearly an hour before giving up. They didn't even give me any local anaesthetic gel until about 30mins in. Then referred to a brilliant gynaecologist who fit it in 5mins - literally! She started with the local anaesthetic (instillagel) and there was almost no pain at all - well, compared to what i'm used to...
Unfortunately, it decided not to stay put so I've since had another one fitted by the same gynaecologist which took a bit longer and was a bit more painful but nothing like the first time!
You need to trust the person doing it - if you don't, DON'T let them railroad you!
