No Cysts Seen On Ultrasound..
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Is it normal/possible to have endometriosis with no cysts or fibroids? I have had two ultrasounds with Kaiser with each time ending with negative results. Both times my bladder was really full (the ultrasound I had to empty my bladder twice! And still had enough for a third trip to the bathroom) and I'm not sure if that messes with the results or not.. just curious. Thank you!

Susanne is correct. Endo will not show up on ultrasound, CT Scan or MRI. Surgery is the only definitive way to diagnose endometriosis. The bladder issue doesn't interfere with the ultrasound. The fuller the bladder the better actually since it helps to distinguish it from other organs like your ovaries. If the ultrasound was negative, then it is time to talk to your dr. about the possibility of endometriosis. Start keeping a journal of the symptoms like pain that lead you to think there are cysts or could be endometriosis, then show it to your dr. so they can understand how often and how severe your symptoms are.

I never had endometriosis show on an ultrasound. I've been under the impression that the only way to diagnose it is to have the surgery.

Ultrasounds will pick up cysts but endometriosis doesn't automatically mean cysts. I have stage 3 endo, had a totally clear ultrasound because I didn't have cysts. Lap showed severe endo.

It's really REALLY hard to diagnose Endo with any imaging or lab studies. The best, most difinitive way is to have a laparoscopic surgery done by a pelvic pain specialist. & don't let anyone else tell you there is no likelihood of Endo Bcs of a normal anything. Try things to see if it helps the pain but don't be scared of the surgery with a good surgeon who knows what their doing.

I went through the same thing, nothing shows so you must be ok. Where I go now my doctor does my ultrasounds so she can tell me right away if I have cysts or something is wrong that she would have to admit me. Techs are only allowed to say what they are viewing (i.e.: this is your right ovary now) because the doctor has to review it. I would talk to your dr and find out what can be done for the pain. Maybe they're trying to rule out fibroids and cysts to justify surgery.
