Hormone/birth Control
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Okay I used to have birth control that gave me a period once every 3 months. Just got switched and I'm not sure if I can handle having a period every month. I feel like it will be too much pain.. Has anyone had more success with a 9 or 12 week pack as opposed to a period every month? Is there any difference pain wise? Which do you prefer?

Don't be sorry! That's why we're on this page right? :) I prefer to have my period every three months because my pain is greatest when I'm bleeding heavily. Another way I look at it is cost wise. Sanitary napkins are expensive and seeing my doctor regularly for follow-ups is expensive, and prescriptions are expensive so if I can save money on buying pads for two months then I feel a little better about it all. I try really hard to find any possible positive in this really negative health situation.

I am on my second pack of a birth control that causes me to only get my period every 3 months. My first three months on it were really successful and limited the pain to when I had my period, but for whatever reason this second pack has not be as successful. I had some really abnormal bleeding and spotting for the first three weeks of the pill which my doctor told me should stop me from bleeding completely. I have just started the second month of the three month pack and the bleeding has stopped, but my doctor is suggesting I go back to my old monthly birth control and just skip the placebo pills. This may be an option you want to look into, I'm told this is what they did before they had 3 month packs. However, I also suggest contacting your insurance company to see if they will cover it because by skipping the placebo pills you'll constantly be ahead... that's the only thing that has prevented me from trying this alternative. I don't think i could handle having a period every month anymore... it's too painful. Hope this helped.

@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member This did help, thank you. My insurance no longer covers the three month pack, which is why I switched to the one month. However I'm bleeding a lot (which I shouldn't be) and am in loads of pain. We're somewhat in the same boat. So either way you prefer only having a period once every three months? (Sorry for the personal questions)
