In a few days I have a follow-up appointment after having my first mirena inserted a few weeks ago. I just wondering what happens during this appointment. Will my doctor do an examination to make sure it is still in place?

They check placement to make sure it's positioned correctly in your uterus and trim the strings, if desired, now that they've softened and there's no fear of them shrinking or the IUD shifting as your body gets used to it. This can be done with a quick pelvic ultrasound or manual/visual exam.
