Sex Life And Physical Relationship
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I can count on one hand the times that me and my boyfriend have had sex in the last year- sad I know
I just had excision surgery back in May and of course I'm terrified of getting back on the horse... seemed like an appropriate analogy. We have tried once since my surgery after waiting long enough and it still hurt but at the time I wasn't on any type of birth control so we had to use a condom and my fun parts have never agreed with most types. I'm thinking that was the main problem (more like… read more

@JenniStander- I had stopped checking this for a while but I'm back.
Sex is a tricky part of a relationship when you have endo.
Some things that help: LUBE... From anxiety to hormones being messed up due to meds, sometimes its a desert down there- lube helps with that part.
Communication- if I didn't feel like i could talk to my fiance about my emotions, pain, etc. we would never have sex.
Spontaneity- weird maybe, but if the moment is random and im not stressing over it, i find it hurts less and is actually enjoyable.
Alcohol- it helps loosen me up but if its not your thing or it triggers pain for you then skip this one.

It's difficult but we make it work.

Lube helps tremendously. Finding the right position is essential. You’re not going to know which positions are most comfortable until you try. Lots of trial and error. Working on breathing properly during intercourse also helps with blood flow and relaxation. If you’re already anxious, tension just creates more pain. Emptying the bladder before and after intercourse is also recommended.

My gynaecologist once suggested hysterectomy and my first question to her was, "will the pain stop afterwards?" and when she responded with a NO, I decided then why should we go that route if its not gonna be a solution? I think doctors are still stunned and clueless about emdometriosis.

Hopefully in time, they will find a cure for this. Somebody has to.

@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member good question about insurance covering vaginal botox. It depends. When performed during excision when under anesthesia, it's often covered.

My injections were covered but not the botox. That can be $3000.

A group of friends and I are working toward getting this covered. We are ANGRY about women being gaslighted. Especially women with endometriosis and adenomyosis. And OH do I have tons to say on the topic. When our website is created, I will let EVERYONE here know. It's named but being built. I think you'll appreciate my slogan.

Smart. A hysterectomy is NOT a sure for endometriosis. I have no idea why physicians continue to believe that myth.
