Preparing For MRI

A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi there! This is my first post and I'm still getting my head round what endo is and could mean, so please bear with my lack of knowledge at this stage! I've been getting symptoms that could be endo (like very painful bm during period) and have had two TV scans which have showed no obvious signs of it. The gyno also did a manual examination and said he couldn't feel any obvious adhesions and although tilted, my womb is completely mobile. Anyway, he is reluctant to just go in for a lap (which I… read more

I'll be honest, I was told for 8 years there was nothing wrong with me because I had nothing show up on scans or exams. My uterus is retroverted also and was completely movable and everything looked normal. I even had a specialsed endometriosis screening scan which showed nothing. After I finally agreed to the survey they found extensive endo all over my pelvic organs and a 40 minute op turned into a 3 hour one. I'm so glad I did it when I did as my doctors agreed if I had left it, I may have had serious issues with fertility and even more nerve pain/damage than I already do. Go through the symptoms and if you and your doctor both believe you have endo from these symptoms, the surgery is 100% worth it even if they remove a tiny tiny spot.

I think the doctor was just saying it might be worth looking for markers, such as if there are organs in strange positions etc. I think there are clues they can find if they know what to look for although I know it's not conclusive.

Was going to say the same as above. Endo does not show on imaging. The only way to get a true diagnosis is through surgery

It will most likely not end up on a MRI. There are so many stories on hear of years and years of negative scans/results and hormone treatment that disguised endo. For years and years some women listen to their docs while endo continued to grow despite their “best intentions.” If you have sharp like pain during bowel movements near your period you probably have endo and it will only get worse wether the pain is disguised or not. Dont let it get to far gone that you are in excruciating pain everyday. Listen to your body and push for a lap.
