A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone had excision surgery done by Robert Furr? I have a phone consult with him on Wednesday. He was listed on Nancy Nook's page. Thanks.

Yes, I have.

He is truly an incredible & talented surgeon. I don't think I would still be here if it wasn't for him. My surgery lasted 5 hours & it took about 7 months to recover where I don't have any pain.. The moment I came out of anesthesia I felt better & noticed a difference. Yes, I still had an incredible amount of pain, but the pain was different, I didn't have that I want to die & hopeless pain.

Before the surgery I was taking about 7-10 Vicodin daily & nobody had a clue because my body had built up a tolerance & adjusted to the dosage over time. After the recovery time I haven't need or wanted any pain medications except the occasional Tylenol.

During the surgery he did insert a Mirena & I also have to take birth control continuously ( I skip the inactive week & start on the next pack) to slow the regrowth process.

I have stage IV deep endometriosis, but he doesn't like to classify the disease as stages it's more of a reference for understanding, the endometriosis had grown on & deep within every single organ in my pelvic & abdominal cavity.

He is the single most important element of helping me mange my disease & getting my life back..

Dr. Furr did inform me my endometriosis was so severe it would take months & months to heal, as well, that I would need more excision surgeries in the future because there is no cure for endometriosis & will grow back.

I am told he is fantastic. I know he is vetted and follows the footsteps of Dr. CY Liu whose daughter is also an excision specialist.

He left Chattanooga. I will be finding out where he is now.

Thanks for your story. I spoke with Dr. Furr, and he told me that it was unlikely that I would need more excision surgery because I am above 30 years old. I am not a doctor, but I have numerous times read that it comes back even if you get excision versus ablation treatment.
