My questions: Has anyone ever nearly cancelled their lap? I am so sick of people dismissing my pain and telling me things like doing more yoga or changing my diet may help. I am in real pain and feeling like a lot of people I talk to just think I am dramatic even though I fall to bits without my pain relief every 4 hours… read more
Bex, definitely get it done. Start thinking about what if they find endo and it proves everyone else wrong! This is your chance to know for sure if that's what's been going on. Your not crazy, most of us have had that defying laprascopy that's set the world to right (so to speak). You know your body, you've already fought so hard to get this far, don't stop now, you are nearly there. X
I would not cancel your surgery. It is important to find out what is going on, and only that can be be done surgically. Imaging simply does not show enough. Also, from personal experience, endometriosis symptoms can progress pretty quickly. I was pretty much asymptomatic four months ago outside of during my period and I was taking continuous birth control. I had no pelvic pain whatsoever. Three months later, I was experiencing severe pelvic pain in addition to leg, bowel, and buttock/tailbone pain on a daily basis. If I had been more persistent about getting a surgical diagnosis earlier, my endometriosis would not have gotten to this point. I would recommend seeing an excision specialist. They are more likely to know what to look for when they do the surgery. There is a list on Nancy's Nook fb page. Good luck!
I would definitely not cancel your op. Any answer is better than no answer. Even if they find nothing, its something ticked off the list.
However back in 2013 I had my first lap after 8 years of pain and I was told I had a tiny patch of endo that definitely couldn't be the reason for my pain. Move forward to 2017 and my surgeon opened me up and I was riddled with it. Absolutely covered.
So you never know what can happen. Just keep fighting and pushing. Its your body. You know best. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Any questions just let me know :) x
I am scheduled for lap #4 in 3 weeks. The first lap was done for a completely unrelated problem in 2011 but found endo. I went back to the doctor in 2014 with severe pain, nausea, near syncopal episodes, and diarrhea. Doctor told me that he could cut me open and find nothing. I went through with surgery on gut instinct and he found a lot of endo. 2016/2017 I went back to a different dr(moved states) and he doubted me as well. He actually told me that it was not my endo at all and surgery would find nothing but he gets paid either way. Surgery was 2 hours long because there was so much endo it buried my right ovary. Now here I am little over a year later with surgery scheduled in 3 weeks. A couple of weeks ago I was actually going to cancel due to fear this time they actually wouldn’t find anything but I go the results of my MRI back and endo is in my bowels. I say trust your gut. I was right the past 3 times. Best of luck to you!
Omg! I feel you. I am on Visanne a hormonal therapy for endo , without having it confirmed by lap because my doctor won’t do it. I think because I’m in Canada and it would be free (as is any surgery), that doctors are less eager to do them. He even said “surgeons don’t do diagnostic laps anymore”- maybe he doenst but that’s just not accurate! I might even go to my country and pay to ge A lap done as even if he agrees it will be a year waiting list. I really want the lap, I feel like I’m going crazy and am doubting myself . I’m also scared if they don’t find anything , like they would be upset and say I told you so. But I think if you have a gut feeling or intuition , it’s probably right. And so many things have been excluded - normal colonoscopy for example as sources of my pain. Just make sure if you get a lap it’s an excision specialist - you don’t want someone to go in there just to look and then suggest another surgeon to go back in and excise.
