I’m due to have a bowel resection and the 7 x 9cm cysts on each ovary removed in the next 8 weeks, has anyone had this done? I’m only 32 and had to sign it all away with hope they can keep me from going into a surgically induced menopause.. also I’ve been told I may have to have a stoma if the bowel can’t be put back together for whatever reason 😩
I had a laparotomy with a bowel resection done back in December (3 inches were cut out of my large intestine) I didn’t have to have a stoma or ostomy! Then in July I got a new incision and had a total hysterectomy with BSO, I’m now 6 weeks post op and I’m on a hormone patch and doing well! I think it’s important to get the diseased tissue out before you can really heal with this disease! I’m still healing and have a ways to go but I don’t have the same pain I did so I know I’m heading down the right path! Good luck to you!
Hi there, yes been there..! I am being treated at a specialist clinic in the UK, are you? Have a look at the BSGE Website under endo centres to make sure you are, especially if the bowel is involved. They have to tell you there is a risk of stoma, but it's so unlikely and more to do with where the nodule is rather than how bad it is, it's reversed once all healed.
I've had it everywhere, it's been 2 and a half years since my referral to the clinic and they are doing it all step by step, now waiting for hysterectomy but only because I have it in my womb. They shouldn't be removing any healthy parts unnecessarily. Was put into surgical menopause but only as prep for surgery to shrink it. Like Hollybeth says just make sure you're being treated at one of the clinics, they will do EVERYTHING to preserve your fertility xxx
Hello and WELCOME=D
@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member and @A MyEndometriosisTeam Member had successful excision/resection of bowel endo (both recent) They'll chime in and share their experience.
Meanwhile, I'll share that my sigmoid is currently "plastered" to the WRONG side of pelvic wall by lesions/adhesions. I'm 25 years post HYST/BSO and still battle this BEAST.
My best advice is this: Find a vetted endo surgeon with a "bowel/uro" team in theatre. There's a list on Nancy's Nook FB page. Skill and experience is key with this disease. They should be able to perform a successful resection without ostomy. PLEASE don't let the average GYN perform this type of surgery.
Your future self will thank you, hon.
