Surgery Or No Surgery?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello,

I have been trying to get pregnant for approx. 4 years. Since getting off birth control 4 years ago I've been having many negative symptoms (painful, heavy, and clotted periods, infertility issues, I am ALWAYS tired with much less energy, and more.). I have had over 8 doctors (not an exaggeration) tell me that I "likely" have endometriosis due to my symptoms BUT that they cannot diagnose me officially because they can't see anything when they've performed ultrasounds (and I have had a… read more

I definitely think that it’s worth getting Surgery, because you’re better off knowing and being able to deal with the problem rather than just second guessing yourself and if they do find endometriosis like they did when I had my surgery they will remove it. If you do not remove it, it could possibly cause more damage than it already might have and it will also help you figure out if it’s severe enough to make you infertile, in which case you could freeze your eggs and save yourself the hurt of not being able to fall pregnant. I personally just think that it’s better knowing. The recovery for the surgery is nothing too intensive as long as everything goes as planned and you’re just better to get a diagnosis for your own comfort and validation of your pain. But at the end of the day no one but you can make the final decision, it doesn’t matter what your doctor thinks is best and you can always get a second opinion if you have any doubts. I basically demanded surgery for the above mentioned reasons. You can always message me if you have any questions about the surgery 😊

I no how you must be feeling. I was in pain for years with no diagnose. Doctors kept making out it was all in my head. In 2015 when to a n e and out of chance seen a gyno doctor who told me he thinks its endometriosis so had surgery to confirm it this was after having my scans and all coming back fine so was told there was nothing wrong. I was lucky that doctor was on at the time to finally give me my answers.
I think you should try push for the surgery only way you will no for sure and if there is any signs of endo can be treated but even its nothing I found at least you will no what's going on and get the answers. Doctors haven't a clue. Hope your feeling better soon and get your answers your looking for

I would definitely have the surgery. My scan showed up an endometrioma but none of the other (mild) endometriosis I had. And the endometrioma was sticking my ovary to my pelvic wall, could've lost the ovary if I hadn't gone in for a laparoscopy. But it sounds like you need to see a specialist, my GP told me endometriosis wasn't really a problem and it wouldn't stop me from getting pregnant - then changed the subject.

One year later I'm still not pregnant, this is my second cycle trying to conceive after I had my endo removed and hoping for more success now.

Best of luck with everything, I think even just finding out for sure what you have will be a big help.

You need a specialist. Look on Face Book Nancy Nooks & you might find a dr. close by. A lap is the only way to know for sure if you have endo. Best of luck to you.

You're not alone, I'm in same boat as you. I've been off contraceptives for 4 years no pregnancies. But beginning of this year I started getting unbearably sick.

After 2 PCP, 2 urologists, & 2 gyno I've found a gyno who is going to do laparoscopy to officially diagnose me. Get a new doctor until someone helps you.

However if it was available in my area I would of opted to go to a Nancy nook specialist (Nancy nook on FB). I've read so many great comments and lots of educational articles available on that site.

I'm getting laparoscopy October 10th because then I can at least have an answer. I'm doing ablation removal if present but excision is a better route.
