I’ve been on the depo shot for two and a half years, and had a laparoscopy 6 months after starting. They told me they were able to remove about 75% of the endo based on where it was located, so they kept me on the depo thinking it would prevent more tissue growth. Within the past couple of months, I’ve started having really intense periods every 2 or 3 months rather than spotting, and they’re heavier and more painful than before I started any form of birth control. Could this be a sign that the… read more
@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member the only true way to stop the progression of endo is to have an excision surgery by a trained surgeon. There are only a handful in the US that are truly trained to perform it with the “gold standard” treatment in mind. They are called Nook doctors. If you have an “ablation” it will come back along with scaring. Ablation surgeries are in fact no longer identified by the Mayo Clinic as an appropriate means to treat endometriosis. If you treat endo with birth control means (pills or IUD) or any GnRH hormonal means (Lupron), you are only treating the pain-related symptom at a palliative level. It’s no better than a $5 bottle of ibproffin. Doctors know the horrific and irreversible side effects of Lupron or the pill form Orsella and are down playing them. The list starts with irreversible liver damage, ovary damage, becoming disabled from the amount of bone loss. There is no where in the evidence based literature stating it “cures” or “stops” endo. It is an outrage that this type of modality is even being discussed with women as a means to treat our illness. Also keep in mind that with each IUD that is placed, a portion of the money that is billed to your insurance gets kicked back to your doctor. I fired my fancy endo specialist on the spot the minute she began pushing Lupron and Orsella one day in her office, in the #1 hospital in the Midwest. Literally on the spot. It takes months to get in to see her. I now know she does not practice evidence based research practices and this is a “teaching hospital.” It’s a clear and simple choice for me now. Currently I’m pursuing a Nook Dr in another state. I’m pursuing the “gold standard” of treatment, because I’m worth it. Because we are with it. Stand up, educate, and advocate for yourself. Please.
And, Christy, I am considering several Nook doctors for surgery including Kenny Sinervo, Nicholas Kongoasa, Iris Orbuch, Andrea Vidali, and Eric Hegaard.
@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member yes me too!! I feel like I know more than most gyno doctors. And feel confident in putting Gynocology on my resume. AND do a better job. 😹😹😹
Hormone shots and bc don’t stop the progression of endo it only helps with pain related symptoms. It’s in the literature and old school gynos practices b/c that’s all they know to do. Sorry your doctor has misled you. Like every other gyno in the world. It’s sad I feel like I know more than most gynos. And I feel like I can put it on my resume now. Join “Nancy’s nook for endo” on fb to educate and advocate for yourself. I’m sorry you are hurting.
@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member, Lupron is NOT the solution. It is a chemotherapy drug for men with prostate cancer. In women, it caused horrible, long-term side effects.
Please do very careful research before choosing to use it.
