Ablation burns the surface of the lesions. Excision takes out the root of the endo lesions. If an OBGYN says he or she specializes in endo but only performs ablation, find another doctor mmediately.
There are only about 100 vetted endometriosis excision specialists worldwide.
Good luck!
Agreed! Everyone I've known who had an ablation regretted it a lot! I've never met a single person who said ablation actually helped them and was worth it. It's a medieval treatment that even sounds like a bad idea. You'll be in horrible pain from all the burns and bleeding wounds inside you...then, the endo will still grow back and you'll be in the same pain you were before the ablation. If a doc is suggesting ablation, run! It's never going to get to the root of the problem.
Do you know if you have endo on your bowel or bladder? Most excision specialists either are skilled enough to remove the bowel and bladder endo or have a team of surgeons to call in who are.
