How Is Mirena? As In Getting An IUD Put In?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I've been on camrese and might be getting Mirena soon and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on how there experience was getting it and while they had/have it as well.

I got one inserted yesterday.. I took painkillers during procedure.
My doctor was excellent and procedure was quick and easy.I was scared because I’ve been in so much pain with Endometriosis and was surprised at how easy the whole thing was. I had no immediate cramps or pain and today I have no cramps or pain , just a little breakthrough bleeding. My doctor says it might stop or lessen my periods which I am really hoping for because then I won’t have pain, and no periods mean no endometriosis.

I'm on my second marina coil and tbh I'm not convinced that it's helping me at all!! My first one was fitted to help control the bleeding (I had suffered from heavy bleeding that had been going on for 12 weeks, medication wasn't slowing/stopping it). The pain of the cramps every month has been horrible ( before having the coil I had never suffered a period pain in my life!!). I've had 2 children and would rather go through childbirth again than this!!.

Having the second one put in was horrendous!! Firstly the other one was removed, which was more unpleasant, but putting it in was soo painful, I was shaking and was sick!! (I don't remember the first one hurting so much). Ever since having this one in I haven't had a full period but I've had spotting every day (since November 2018).

Like it's been said some people take to it better than others, personally I don't think I would have opted to have one fitted but at the time I would have tried anything to stop the bleeding.

I hope everything goes smoothly for you x

I had Mirena for one month (I have a child). It was excruciatingly painful. I don’t have painful periods (I just get really ill). But the Mirena caused a lot of pain and bleeding for the month. I couldn’t take it and had to removed. It’s different for everyone though!
