Has anyone bought one of these and found it useful? It’s a almost $200 but what if it’s useful?
It’s a generic TENS unit and from what I’ve looked into, you can get better units for less money. As for TENS in general, it works for some people and not for others. I have an iTENS (which is a wireless unit I control with my phone). It has a ton of settings and is very customizable which I like. I find it does help me, but only on my mild and moderate pain days. (Like maybe pain level 6 or below on the 1 to 10 pain scale.) If I’m above that, nothing helps, including the TENS unit, but then again, especially because mine is wireless, I think TENS is really helpful in getting daily tasks taken care of when I’m hurting but not quite incapacitated level.
2 tips:
1) Before I got my expensive unit, I tried a $15 one from the drug store. If you do this, don’t expect it to be nearly as effective, but it might give you an idea whether TENS works for you at all before spending a ton of money on a nice one. My nicer one is also more comfortable. I thought the drug store one felt kind of sharp, but it was still a good preview/test.
2) If you decide to get an iTENS, you can set the setting you like with your phone and then the next time, you can turn the unit on without your phone using the buttons on the unit. It will remember the settings from last time but not depend on Bluetooth range to your phone. It took me a long tine to realize that but it’s so helpful!
Sorry for a long post with lots of info but hopefully it’s helpful! There are a few good models out there, but iTENS is the one I know best. Livia is mostly marketing in my opinion. There are definitely better ones than Livia.
These are the settings I’m using for mine that seem to work pretty well for endo pain. This should translate okay to any customizable unit I think. (Though experiment to see what works best for you.)
