Should I Get Surgery?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

So I recently went to the er about two months ago for severe pain that I thought was appendicitis. The doctors thought I had an ovarian cyst and had me do an internal ultrasound. They didn't find anything wrong, but all of my symptoms were symptoms of cysts. I felt so lost. I went to a new gynecologist and she said she thought I had endometriosis, but just put me on a birth control, even though I had already been on a birth control for a year. I want to get a laparoscopy, not only to help the… read more

Cry to your gyno and let her know everything you have been going through and why you insist on the laparoscopy. That’s what I had to do. I had to literally break down and tell her all the doctors and ER staff I have seen just don’t care to look into what’s causing my pain and misery. All they want to do is write up a script for pain meds and send me on my way so when I told her that’s not what I’m coming for and no I don’t just want to chance it by changing my birth control she was able to take me seriously and started scheduling the procedure. It took me almost 2 years to be diagnosed with endometriosis a handful of doctors and hospital visits. You have to be your body’s advocate because no doctors or medical staff know what you go through unless you stand up and say you know something is not right with your body and you don’t want to be in the agonizing pain anymore. I wish you all the best and hope my message helps. Give us an update if you want. God bless!

If you feel the right thing is to get a lap, find someone to help you and do it!
It's your body and your choice, do not wait for it to get worse. If it turns out it's not endo, then at least you know and can move forward to try and find more answers. If it is endo, they can remove it and help you go forward in your life!
It is so sad that we are made to believe that it is normal to suffer pain -IT'S NOT NORMAL!
Fight for yourself, get treatment before it gets worse, it might save you a lot of pain and hardship in the future. ❤

I’d try to talk to the dr and explain that you’d like a lap. It is the only real way to diagnose endo. My dr told me he suspected it but would “save me a surgery”. Honestly I wish he hadn’t because it got far worse.

I'm going to my gyno Monday to try and get a referral to a specialist. Then hopefully get my laparoscopy
