Hi y'all..
Just spoke to a surgeon today who recommends i have my left ovary out, as well as a possible bowel resection. I have a couple questions for anyone who has gone through this.
• was your recovery worse than an excision recovery?
• did you struggle with your hormones? (Ovary)
• what happens with bowel movements? (Resection)
• is there anything else specific i should know going in?
I've had 2 excision surgeries so i have a general idea of what to expect, just want more specifics.
I had my left ovary removed in May 2018. My body continues to function as normal, and I had no side effects from having it removed. Good luck :).
I just had my left ovary and an ovarian cyst as well as a lot of scar tissue removed about a week ago. I’m still hurting. But I scoured the internet and asked here and I think you should be ok. I think the deciding factor was that I’m over 40, and my chances of having children are slim anyway. So it wasn’t a “huge” deal. When they went in there was a lot of scar tissue that had regrown very quickly after only a couple months since my last surgery (feb 2019). I had a choice before surgery to leave my ovary, even if it was going to be compromised. I decided to let them take it because of all of the above factors. Bless you. I think I made the right decision for myself.
I had an salpingo-oophorectomy on May 20th because my ovary was the size of tennis ball and had a Endometrioma cyst and fused with endo via laparoscopy/laparotomy. For a few weeks, it felt like there was a baseball-sized hole where my ovary was.
So far, I haven’t noticed a difference without it as my right ovary has been the primary ovary for some time. Hope your surgery goes well!!!
I had my right ovary removed a few years ago bc of an Endometrioma..the doc said the other ovary makes up for the loss of one. Hope that helps!
I’m about to have an ovarian cyst removed and they wanna take my left ovary out so it doesn’t keep happening. I’m worried. But women on the board have said that one ovary removal hasn’t been terrible. And you can still have kids. For me, I’m older, so I only have a couple years left to “decide” about kids. I would be a lot more hesitant if I was under 35.
