A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi
I am going in for my post-op appointment in a few days, and I know my doctor wants to change my treatment. I have endo all over my uterus, colon, and rectum, and they were not able to remove any during my last surgery. I’ve been on several oral contraceptives, but all have made me feel even worse than I do with nothing. The last one made me gain 30 pounds and bleed nonstop the entire time I was taking it. I have read that IUDs can be an option, but I don’t have any experience with that. I… read more

Yeah, obviously the Mirena will hopefully help with the bleeding, but the other endo implants continue to be "meanie-heads" (as my nephew would say). So I had a Mirena but expelled it after 6 weeks. I had been so hopeful it would stop the bleeding. But I think my uterus was just a bad landlady and also had really bad adenomyosis. 🤣🤣

Let me just throw out some other things I've found helpful. Hopefully they aren't too annoying or repetitive 🤓🤓😜

https://knowyourendo.com and http://www.jessicamurnane.com
both sites of Jessica's, who has endo herself. I've found them helpful in terms of diet changes. I spoke to a nutritionist and an integrative doc who both helped me make diet and lifestyle changes, which helped until I could get surgery.

My first surgeon: lots of good educational info
https://www.drseckin.com
he said us Endo Warriors have to exercise daily (as much as possible) because it helps with estrogen metabolism

My second surgeon:
https://pacificendometriosis.com
especially under the educational tab. She has cool surgical videos too, if you're into that.

And then any of the docs I recommended; most of their sites are great.

Only thing my mirena has helped is periods are not so heavy - so can see it would be helpful if heavy periods were your issue.. hasn't helped my pain... am having a hysterectomy soon to sort my adenomyosis... I'm pretty sure it's prob the mirena that's been giving me extremely frequent UTIs

I’ve had mirena since 2016, it is a great choice for BC but in my experience not great for endo treatment. I grew an 8cm chocolate cyst while on mirena and it hasnt stopped most of my pain and bleeding

I got the mirena as well in May. They sedated me while they inserted it so the procedure wasn’t bad, but the next 2 months the pain was horrible. Now I get a little bit of pain relief with it.

YES! The mirena has brought me sanity for the last 4 years. I was bed bound for nearly 2 years before I finally got the mirena. My cervix is like stone though, so insertion was a horrible experience. But worth it. I've had some other health changes that for some reason my symptoms of endo are coming back BUT, I had a 4 year stint of my pain being 100% bareable. My first doctor(who sucked) told me the iud wasn't even an option until she tried a good 10 other things that made me feel worse. My current doctor, who is a specialist, said an IUD is one of the first things she tries with endo because it has a great track record with helping.
