Hysterectomy?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’m not 100% sold on this idea yet but is it worth getting a hysterectomy? Will it fix all the problems? Any long term side effects? Change in lifestyle? Any info would be great. Thx

I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago and I had little to no pain. However I’ve been struggling with pain, got diagnosed with hypothyroid and fibromyalgia since then, and today for the first time had to leave work and go to the ER because the pain was back again! So definitely try everything first! The hysterectomy was my last step, before that I tried every medicine, had an ablation... and nothing worked! Good luck to all you ladies who are Dealing with this! This is the worst thing ever!!!!

As above, hysterectomy only cures adenomyosis. It does absolutely nothing to cure endo. Also don't let them take any ovaries with the sole intent of curing endo because that doesn't work either. Here's a bunch of resources I've accumulated over the years. Check out Dr. Cook's Instagram; he's doing lots of videos on proper excision treatment of endo. Hysterectomy and ovaries out is offered by gynos who do not have the skills to remove endo. Removing the endo implants is the only thing that can improve endo. Dr. Cook even thinks it can be cured with lots of other lifestyle interventions

If you have been diagnosed with adenomyosis, a hysterectomy can cure it. But yeah it doesn't cure endo.

Please research this topic thoroughly. I’ve read and heard that hysterectomy is not necessarily a cure for endo. I have bowel endo and have not had a hysterectomy. Had I had a hysterectomy, it would not have helped. I hope you are seeing an endometriosis specialist. Most ob-gyn’s are not endo specialists.

Story of my life. I went in for treatment off endo got the excision and my left ovary removed because it was somehow supposed to completely cure my endo. It did No such thing. My endo is actually way worse then it’s ever been 4 years down the road from my past surgery. Went back to my gyno and she put me on orilissa which she said would “mimic what it would be like having a hysterectomy “ she said that if I tried it and had relief that somehow the hysterectomy would do the same thing. DO NOT LISTEN. Always get a second opinion. I went crazy on the orilissa it was terrible. Although everybodies experiences are different. I could not imagine going into menopause at my age. It did not help whatsoever. Gyno s are leaning towards not wanting to do surgery because it causes more scar tissue ? I get it. But sometimes that’s the only reasonable solution. It helps? Please get a second and even third opinion before considering this.
