I have been taking Visanne for 4 months, no pain and no periods, then all of sudden I got a really heavy period and it's latest almost 4 weeks. Really heavy bleeding with clots. I'm getting really scared that the bleeding won't stop. My doctor has told me to stop taking Visanne, but I'm really disappointed since it seemed to to be working so well. Have you heard that heavy extended periods is a side effect of Visanne? Did anyone else experience this? What did you start taking instead?

Thank you all for your support. My Gyno advised me to stop taking the Visanne and the bleeding stopped, so I assume I just experienced a bad side effect from Visanne. I wanted to post the end result here in case anyone else is searching for Visanne side effects.

I have been taking Visanne for 13 months now. Prior to that, I had excessive bleeding/clots for over a year and excruciating pain. I started taking Visanne after surgery last December. My periods stopped and the pain all but disappeared!
Till a week ago. My crazy cramps, and bloating are back in full force. I had breakthrough bleeding for about a week (my period maybe).
I am seeing a new gynaecologist soon. I will post what I find out. I know there are meds to take in addition to Visanne, but they can lead to osteoporosis.
Also, I want to mention that I was treated for endo and continuous bleeding in the past with Metformin. It’s a med for diabetes they figured out works for PCOS and endo.

That must have been scary! Please keep us posted about that you find out. I'm on Visanne for a fourth month now as well and I'm feeling great. I have been wondering though about long term side effects.. Apparently with some women the symptoms come back after some time despite taking Visanne..

Thank you @A MyEndometriosisTeam Member. I actually found this website after googling Visanne and extended bleeding, so I suspect it's a more common side effect than I realized. I will let you know if I find an alternative that works!
