A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

So if endo was found during ab hysterectomy in.pouch of douglas and diathermied, and then in a 2nd op 6 months later, endo cyst was found on ovary and more excised from pouch of douglas and on rectal? wall, can i now say i dont have endo? Or once you have it do you always have it?

You might still have Endo. Most Endo surgeries are done with ablation, where it just burns the top of it. Problem is Endo makes its own estrogen, so it can keep getting bigger and spreading. So you would have to ask your surgeon.

If it is all excised properly, the odds of it coming back are much lower. About 5-20% with excision vs. 70-80% with ablation.

If you have endo Inside of the Ovary, it can produce more endo. You are unable to tell if you will get more Cysts because it grows inside the ovary until it is pushed outward. However, if the endo in your pelvis was excised properly, the chance of reoccurring endo is smaller as posted earlier. Talk to your doctor about endo of the ovary- if you have reoccurring cysts than that ovary may need to be removed.

Once you have it, you'll always have it.
