First of all, I love your profile picture. Secondly, I had a hysterectomy but it was for adenomyosis, not endo. I just want to make sure your doc isn't telling you that a hysterectomy will cure your endo, since it can't. Some EndoWarriors have uterine pain for other reasons, so a hysterectomy definitely helps. But if the goal is to cure endo, it's false.

Also, it's important to review the options of the types of hysterectomies. Many times, the definition isn't made clear by our docs. I had a total hysterectomy, which means they removed my entire uterus, including my cervix. I chose to keep my ovaries because medical menopause scared me. Also, there's lots of heart disease and osteoporosis in my family, and I just didn't want to add fuel to that fire.

As to recovery, make sure they give you at least 6 weeks off. That's pretty standard, I believe, but wanted to throw it out there. You will need lots of time to recover. If you're a neat freak like me, clean your house really well before it because you won't be able to for at least 6 weeks. I happened to take a long time to heal, but I hope you'll only need 6 weeks. I hope you have a caregiver for at least the first week, if not longer. You will be pretty dependent for help. Also cook a bunch of meals that freeze easily; it makes it easier to just thaw and heat. Lastly, I was given a binder by the RN at my first excision surgery and I loved it. It made coughing and sneezing so much more comfortable. My insides didn't feel like they were going to explode out of me.

I strongly recommend EndoWarriors have surgery with excision surgeons if possible. They are the best trained at treating endo. Nancy's Nook on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/NancysNookEndoEd/) is a good resource. Lots of articles and a list of excision surgeons. I’ll leave a resource list I made of stuff about endo I've found helpful over the years. Other users have said it helped too. It covers things from endo basics to excision surgery to diet and wellness. Let me know if I can do anything. Happy to help however I can.

I was in school when I had my surgery and within a few days after surgery I was in class. I took my boyfriend with me as well as my pain meds. I did not have a full hysterectomy.

If I had a job at that moment I would have called out. Listen to your body. When i didn't have to be some where i rested or walked. House work has to be phased back in. Be patient with yourself, your body is doing a lot of work and adjusting.
