Endo Books?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello.

I want to talk to my youngest sister about endo. What sort of resources and books do you recommend? How would you start off?

I was thinking that a quick ten minute talk is enough for now. I will cover the basics of the disease as well. She is only five years old so I do not wish to overwhelm her however. Thanks in advance. Advice and tips will also be appreciated too. This will pave the way for further conversations.

Is it a good idea to use pictures or not?

You can try this comic, you can just skip over the wordy parts but some of the pictures might help. https://www.boredpanda.com/endometriosis-woman-...

If she's that young, then none of what I gave you makes sense. I would contact Endometriosis Foundation of America because they have a school nurse program. They are teaching school nurses in the US about how to talk to children of various ages about endo. They would likely be able to help.

The Enpowr project is where they are teaching people to deliver the content, but it's more for teenagers. Mostly, the people giving the lectures have endo themselves. But it might be helpful.

How old is she? That will dictate what she's ready for, etc.

This page is a good intro. It starts with an overview and then at the bottom is a link to the next page. It covers symptoms, treatment, etc. So you can get as detailed as you want.

This is a good overview book. It's by Dr. Cook, whose website is above.

This one is more about the experiences of people with endo. It was written by the doc who did my first excision surgery.

Hope that helps; let me know if I can help further.

That's a really good idea! It will hopefully support your relationship in the long-run for her to have more insight into what you experience day to day.

Nice picture by the way! Gorgeous smile :)
