Hi I have the mirena coil in place and I'm due to have a laproscopy in 2 weeks. I was just wondering if the mirena masks the endo? Does it make it harder to find endo during surgery?
I agree with MissCaitlin. I was on depo during my surgery and my doctor found tons of endo. I think it will depend on the skill of the surgeon. I hope it all goes well!
I have a similar experience with depo. Never had pain until I got it. Same experience with only having an Endometrioma removed & not the rest of the Endo tissue. 98% of people with Endometriomas also have Endo in the deep Pelvic cavity- study:

The best outcomes are from surgery with an Endometriosis excision specialist who's skills have been vetted by the group Nancy's Nook Endometriosis Education. You can find them on Facebook. Some of their surgeons have an 80-95% success rate of removing it all & not having to re-operate a 2nd time vs your average OBGYNs with only a 20% success rate. Hang in there & I hope you're able to get help
This is totally my personal opinion and not backed by any science, just my own experience... I believe my mirena was the cause of my endometriosis. I didn’t have any symptoms until about 6 months with my IUD. (Heavier periods, but minimal cramping up until that point in my life). After about 6 months with my IUD, I started to have terrible cramping all times of the month and painful sex. I had my IUD removed and the symptoms persisted. Ultrasounds showed I had an ovarian cyst that might be causing the problem and after 3 months when it didn’t go away I had laparoscopic surgery to remove it. During this surgery is when the found the endometriosis. After the cyst removal, my pain became less intense but never fully went away. I truly believe having my IUD was the cause of my endometriosis.
My excision surgeon I'm seeing in a few months, Dr Nicholas Fogelson & Nancy in Nancy's Nook Endometriosis Education have both said yes, unfortunately. It can make some of the smaller growths harder to visualize. It makes me worry but I don't see how I can possibly stop taking my hormones & endure the pain until surgery.
Dr Fogelson suggested high dose CBD + THC which also decreases need for opioids after surgery, but I can't take them right now b/c they interact with prednisone which I'm also on (they interact with steroids, stations, medications for mood disorders & anything you can't take grapeseed oil, goldenseal or St John's wort with).
You may want to speak to your excision surgeon about the hormones & whether you should have it removed now & then a new one out back in during surgery or not, & whether you can take CBD &/or THC or other pain management before surgery.
