I was diagnosed with endometriosis in my early 20s. Due to the fact that I was still in childbearing years Dr's would only perform excision of the endo. After 4 surgeries in 6 years I was fortunate enough to find a Dr to do a total hysterectomy. It's now been 4 years since my surgery and I have been having excruciating pain, same as endo pain. I've had almost every test possible without a diagnoses. Has anyone else had any problems with endometriosis after full hysterectomy with Bso ?? Thank you… read more
I just had a hysterectomy and a full colon resection 2.5 weeks ago for stage IV endometriosis, bowel endometriosis and adenomyosis/fibroids. The surgery was 12.5 hours long because they also had to remove a giant cyst by my appendix and cysts around my pelvic floor. I was lucky to have three amazing surgeons fix me up.
On the happier side, I won't get periods again, uterine bloating, and endometriosis pain (with the latter being for the near future?). I have also lost some weight due to the colon resection. On the crappier side, I have post surgery pain and serious digestive issues (colon surgery related). Hopefully, both will resolve quickly with time. I pray that I don't have to deal with any endometriosis part 2 concerns post hysterectomy. Fingers crossed.
Sorry its been so rough for both of you. Hang in there. I know that I can't wait to feel better too. A hysterectomy can be a blessing for many, but there are no easy answers with this disease.
Hey, Alisha. I don't know if this helps--and I'm absolutely no expert--From what I've been told, there are very few doctors in the world who are able to do full and complete excision. If a person is able to find one of these specialists, the likelihood of endo coming back is low, in the single digits percentile-wise. A doctor told me that if one of these surgeons excises all of the endo (completely with margins)and it does recur, it's called metaplastic endometriosis.
I hope you can figure out what is going on and would love to hear back about it if you feel like sharing. I am being scheduled for a hysterectomy for adenomyosis and letting the news settle. It's helpful to hear others' experiences.
Sending my hopes for you.
Thank you, A BSO is bilateral spangelo uphorectomy !!
Hi, I’m new to the group as well. I don’t know what BSO is but I’ve had 4 surgeries post hysterectomy and looking at another one fairly soon. I have had endo on my bladder and bowel so if they don’t get it all, I keep having to have surgery. I need a little estrogen or my hot flashes and night sweats are unbearable. So it’s a balance. But, I have pain all the time. I would make an appointment with your OBGYN. There could be some in the scar tissue or other places. Not to scare you but you know your body and if it hurts then it needs to be checked out. I had a wonderful Dr. that made my diagnosis when I was 18 after years of being in pain. He also did my hysterectomy. He is retired now and I’ve yet to find another Dr. that really deals with this terrible disease. Keep us posted. Hugs
