After 5 Years Of Fighting Endo, I’ve FINALLY Been Approved For A Hysterectomy With This Next Excision Surgery. Any Tips Or Advice??
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

It’s scheduled for next week (Valentines day ha!). I’m only 31 so I don’t have friends who have been through a hysterectomy and excision at my age. My first excision knocked me down so hard and I took forever to fully heal. Any tips for ways to heal after the surgery? Things you wish you had known going through it?? They’re leaving my ovaries but taking tubes, uterus, and cervix (which I just found out from my pap that it has precancerous matter on it).

From what I understand endometriosis is estrogen growing outside of the uterus. Ovaries produce estrogen so I don't know why they are leaving them.
I had everything all removed (ovaries, uterus, tubes, cervix) and then they removed as many lesions as possible. The operation (you won't know and you'll wake up on pain medication). Everyone heals at different rates depending on their own body (probably similar to you excision). But I do recall that having someone stay with you even after you leave the hospital 24/7 is very important. But it is very much better after, so well worth it. Take care❤️

Although due to pre cancer cells that's entirely different and I would maybe consider a hysterectomy then just to be on the safe side as even though it's a big procedure the pros could possibly weigh out the cons when it comes to this kinda thing 💛 I am so sorry you are going through this and I wish you all the best take care x

It's a big decision to make I have been offered one many times over the last 2 decades, I choose not to have one as there is no cure for endometriosis not even a hysterectomy it's a massive procedure and the decision shouldn't be taken lightly I weighed up the pros and cons and for me it didn't feel necessary to put myself through it when it won't alleviate my pain anyway I am in pain daily my disease was not just contained to the reproductive organs it was everywhere , everyone is different and depends how you feel on the matter I am also infertile and childless but I won't intentionally remove my reporoductive organs even if there is no hope of fertility - all I can say is take time and consider everything it's a big decision to make 💛

I’m supposed to go for a hysterectomy in a month. I’ve been on the fence on whether I should do it. What should I consider

I would try to hold off having a hysterectomy unless you actually have Adneomyosis. The hysterectomy cures Adneo but it won't cure the endometriosis that will eventually grow back even after being excessed out. I know cause I am on going on my 4th surgery, stage 4. Your body may respond differently however to the hysterectomy. For me going into menopause is hell. But again I think this depends on your body - genes etc. Make sure you are going to a specialist!! Taking out the cervix you need a skilled doctor. You want to have your ovaries otherwise you will go into severe menopause. Your uterus is part of the hormonal process so when removing this it will make your ovaries and other hormonal glands work harder - until they can adjust. From my experience you may just go into menopause much earlier, but not having periods is the best part.
