I was diagnosed when i had surgery for something else. I saw a mass on my lumbar mri, and further imaging saw a large ovarian cyst. So the surgery was to determine what the mass was and rule out cancer. They found endo. I healed from that surgery and 4 1/2 months later had them Complete my hysterecromy ( they initially took an ovary and tubes.) Everything was removed and endo spots were excised. They left a couple spots.

I didn't know until the Dr removed a chocolate cyst and my ovary I have endo. I was really surprised by this since I had had 3 ultrasounds and an MRI the months leading up to this and no one saw endo. It was shocking that I went from having no idea I had it to having stage 4. There really needs to be better screening and testing for it I think.

MRI scan picked up endometriosis and adenomyosis for me. Before this i had x rays and scans which didn't pick it up.

The only way I was told I could be diagnosed was by incision and inspection of the pelvic area - so I went in for Robotic assist surgery at Camran Nezhat institute in RedWood City Ca.

I got diagnosed with endometriosis by having a laparoscopic surgery done but ONE surgery will not help because it continues to grow and it can get into the intestines and everywhere else. The pain is horrible and having pcos doesn't help with it st all. All the doctors I went to wouldn't help me either so I did my own research on finding a doctor that would listen and say yes I will do the hysterectomy with no problem. It was the best decision I could have ever made in my life. DO RESEARCH and find a doctor that will help you. Good luck
