Can I Still Have Endometriosis After Hysterectomy?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have stomach problems and digestive issues and hurts to have bowel movements and been irregular and worst since surgery. Can it come back or be the problem still? I had a hysterectomy when I was 28 I am now 46 I still have both ovaries. My endometriosis was in the uterine walls and behind the uterus. I just get told ibs but I can barely eat scared of the pain I have

I’m so sorry you are going through all this, trust me I’m right there with you. I’ve had sciatica since I was 14 so I been dealing with back and leg pain for many years. I also waited till now to deal with all these issues, it took me being hospitalized to wake up and start getting help. Endometriosis can grow on any organs even your sciatic nerve which causes lower back and leg pain usually in one leg but can be both it can even grow on your lungs. It’s a horrible disease, I wish they would do more research with all the technology that’s available.
Doctors can be wrong, you know your body better than anyone don’t let them tell you it’s only IBS you have to advocate for yourself and don’t take that as a final answer. Demand more testing!
Don’t give up! Sending love and strength ❤️

Thank you for your reply. I have been to the doctor so many times and told them if my past issues and just get the answer of ibs. I knew it was more to it than just that. I’ve lost an extreme amount of weight. I will see a Gi doctor soon . It all scares me that I’ve waited too long

Yes you can still grow endometriosis after a hysterectomy, unfortunately. It can also grow on your bowels, I haven’t had my laparoscopy yet but I had a bowel obstruction and was hospitalized where they found endo through MRI on my ovaries and bowels. You should see a GI specialist. Then endo affects my bowels and rectum so I also know the agonizing pain of trying to have a bowel movement and being scared to eat cause it hurts. Don’t wait on it tho you should go see a specialist asap! I hope you get some help and relief ❤️
