Any Advice/recommendations For Recovery From Laparoscopy?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hey! I was diagnosed via laparoscopy and excision back in 2018/2019, I’ve had endometriosis since I was 15 (as usual, took me years to be diagnosed).

When I had my last op, they only looked at the typical endo areas. I’ve recently been put forward for more surgery, including on my bowel & bladder (if they find endo there).

I’m really nervous for the recovery from this surgery, if anyone has any advice/recommendations on things that helped them after similar surgery then I’d love to know!

I… read more

@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member Thank you so much! Some really good tips there, I'll definitely look into the magnesium spray - I never knew that could help with gas :) I remember after my last surgery just being soooo tight and hunched over, the pain was bearable though thankfully. More concerned this time as it involved my bowel, but that's just me assuming that it'll be more painful - hopefully it isnt! I'm going to get a cane I think, I'm quite unsteady on my feet anyway from having low iron so that's a great shout. I'll look into the herbal pain relief too, I really hate taking proper pain killers - I once took codeine on an empty stomach stupidly and wow I was so poorly, never again! Thank you again <3

@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member you’re welcome! Mini fridge is a great idea never thought of that lol!
Nerves are completely normal lovely! I’ve had ops where they involved my bowel it can be a bit of a longer recovery time and be a bit more sore but as long as you rest, recover and eat lots of fibre you’ll be just fine ☺️ all the best xx

@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! :) I think I'm going to get a mini fridge up in my room so I don't have to go up and down the stairs constantly for drinks in that first week. Other than that, I'll definitely get lots of rest and exercise where possible, I did that last time and it did help a lot actually! Just more nervous this time as it involves my bowel, but that's just me presuming it'll be worse. Thanks again! xx

So sorry to hear you need another surgery. I’ve currently had 12 ops so far and the things I find that help me are:
When you come home for the first day just rest, drink peppermint tea for the gas pain, eat fibrous foods to help get your system going, on day 2 go for a little walk a couple times a day be it round the garden or up the road, do not lift anything the last thing you want to do it pull any stitches or do damaged inside by lifting things, sleep and rest as much as possible, take ibroprofen (sorry I can’t spell lol) I found walking to really help my recovery no idea on the science behind it, it just helps. So sorry you don’t have anyone to look after you 💛 I hope it all goes well have you have a speedy recovery and have relief afterwards x

Same here! It's horrible that all these things I had to figure out the hard way. The list of what to prepare that I gotten from docs doesn't have any of it on there. They warned me about constipation last time, but their main advice was fiber (knowing it can make it worse in the long run). Last surgery, I had to come off all opioid pain killers just to poop after like a week and you can imagine how painful that was after surgery! Kratom was a godsend! Btw, I use the green strain. There's white, red, yellow and green. Red is supposed to be the best for pain, but it makes me super angry and does nothing for pain. White is supposed to be for mental mostly. Not sure where yellow sits, but green always works -unless it Krampus. Krampus actually gives me cramps. Lol. It tastes like shit. I mix it with water in a shotglass with a lid. Green tea makes the taste better; but, I've gotten used to at this point, so I switched to water. It will dehydrate you, but not like the other opioids. You'll just want to drink loads of water. I'm also gonna get one of those grappling claws to reach stuff that's just out of reach without having to get up. I thought of it after my last surgery and definitely want it for this one. Good luck!! I hope you can get acquainted with kratom before you have surgery, just so you know what it can and can't do. It's still not gonna be the same caliber of pain relief as an actual opioid, but it can definitely prevent problems that opioids don't and sometimes that alone is worth it. Oh, and you can't overdose on it! That was one of the best sellikg points for me. If you take too much, you'll throw up and, ironically, you will still feel pain relief within 5 mins. I hate the opioid high that lasts for hours and makes you feel like your brain is in a fog. I like mental clarity as much as I can get it. LOL.
