Too Soon For Specialist/fertility Testing?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone else seen a specialist or had fertility testing done right after endo diagnosis? It's been almost 3 months since my surgery/diagnosis. I am still having troubling symptoms despite the operation and birth control pills. I am not quite yet ready to try to conceive but was wondering if it's too presumptuous to go ahead and see a specialist or have fertility testing done. I am so afraid that this disease will get out of control and prevent me from being able to become pregnant when I'm… read more

I waited. After I was diagnosed, I went thru several treatments to get it under control. Once I was ready to conceive my doctor said to give a good six months of really trying. I bought books to help you maximize your chances by listening to your body. I got pregnant on my sixth month! I know not everyone is the same but I would give it a good try first. Just my opinion.

How did you go about getting pregnant?
I want to get pregnant so much but am terrified of coming of my Birth Control!
I'm on it non-stop!! How did you do it?
Did you have to come off the Pill for several months? To get a cycle going again? Or did you come off 1 month and have a normal cycle right off the bat? And has your Endo returned in doing so?

I am nervous to approach my doctor about getting a referral because I'm afraid she will see it as over reacting considering my boyfriend and I have not actively been TTC. Me and my boyfriend are talking about marriage and TTC in 2016. I want to do everything I can to increase my chances of becoming a mommy asap. My doctor will not place the Mirena, due to risks, considering I've never been pregnant before. I just want to be as prepared as I can going into this process knowing it may be a long and difficult road.

as for the fertility specialist i would get an appointment. alot of people say they want you to try first for 6 months to a year first but if you arn't ready just explain that you want to go through your options. if they dont want to give you a referral (if you need one) than just keep going around to different practices until you find someone who ill take you seriously. take control of what you can and that's finding a great specialist and a good doctor.

There are a few different avenues you can go down and that's IVF IUI and just fertility drugs to make sure your producing eggs each month. the IUI is basically you take fertility drugs (orally) and the sperm gets collected in a cup, processed and then squirted up into the tubes to give you the best chance. then IVF seems scary but i liked it a little more than the others because at least you knew a bit more in depth what was happening. There are heaps of drugs (injections), appointments, scans... etc.. it takes a lot of time to go through that cycle. then of cause if your eggs are shot then you can inquire about a donor egg etc.

moral of my little novel here is that now is the perfect time to look into it and make plans for the future. make sure you consider things like going through IVF and IUI but hopefully it wont come to that. I hope this helps with some information. again you could be fine and not have to worry but for some people its not. I would check out the mirena and really ask yourself those questions.

Sure how far into the future do you want kids? Contemplate how would you feel if that had to be pushed back a few years. and how old will you be then? if you will be over 30 then your chances will drop even more. and what you are willing to forgo, like if you want a large family in a short amount of time. Unfortunately there is so much uncertainty with endo as well as your fertility and you wont get an idea of your situation until you are in the midst of it and even then there is still uncertainty. which is what i find the most frustrating and heart breaking because you just don't know.
I was told once i was diagnosed to start sooner rather than later for babies. but it really does boil down to when you will be ready vs when your endo is at. All the different stages of endo can effect your chances differently. There have been studies done to say that it effects both the egg quality and the implantation rate. The best chance an endo sufferer has is within the 6 months of having a resection, with a peak in the latter months due to the effects endo has on the developing eggs in the later 90 day maturation period. however, you also need to way up the fact that more surgeries means more scar tissue and that can also effect your fertility depending on where its situated. i know its complicated but it is a good idea to do some research.
If you are feeling cramps it could be because of the birth control pills. Read up about the mirena it doesn't work for everyone but it seems to be a god send for my sister. She had it inserted (into the uterus) and its a slow release hormone that lasts for 5 years. its a contraceptive and also should stop or at most produce spotting at the time of your period so it also stops you from having period pain. you can get it taken out whenever you like and it wouldn't be a bad thing to consider in your situation. but again read up about it a bit more.
