I had endometriosis of the bowel in 1984. The dr. went in and took out as much of the endo that he could. I seemed to be ok but the endo kept coming back & I had several surgeries. Now it's adhesions that form, that cause me problems. I went in last Sept & had adhesions removed. I'm doing a lot better but I still get pain every once in awhile.Yes that is true about the colostomy bag but it depends on the individual & how bad it is. I have a friend who had colitis & she now has a bag but thank God in a couple of weeks they will reverse it so just cause a person has one doesn't mean it's permanent. I do worry about that though cause my BM are not like they should be & I think I need a colonoscopy just to be on the safe side. I hope I could be of some help to you. tigreyes

I believe that is only necessary if Chrones disease is found.

I have endo that is also attached to my bowel and I have IBS. I do have more endo pain when I have IBS symptoms. Once I got my endo under control, my IBS became more controllable. If you do not want kids or you are done having kids, I recommend an IUD. It is probably the only Birth Control that has no estrogen. Endo gets worse with estrogen. An IUD will at least keep the endo from getting worse. In my case it has relieved most pain and symptoms. Talking to your doctor about it wouldn't hurt. :)

Correction to my previous statement--in some cases, a temporary colostomy bag may be necessary if any portion of the intestines is resected. @A MyEndometriosisTeam Member
