Hi all, I've recently had a laparoscopy and they found 3 nodules of endometriosis behind my uterus. They closed me up and didn't do anything and said I need to have a laparotomy the more complicated surgery. I'm wondering what the scar is going to be like. Is it like a c-section scar where they cut horizontally or do they cut vertically and I'll be left with a big scar up and down my belly? If anyone has experienced a laparotomy, how did it go? Did your endometriosis return, how long did it take… read more

I have had it twice. Mine was cut vertically just above my bikini line. I had no stitches and I only have a thin line which you can barely see. I suppose it depends on the surgeon. Recovery time is 4-6 weeks. First two weeks you can literally do nothing for yourself. I have severe stage 4 endometriosis on my bowel and bladder and also severe adenomyosis. It has helped for a while but after 2 years it can come back. My symptoms are back now. My last surgery was in 2013.

Laparotomy was my first surgery (Oct 2009). The best way to describe it, it is like a C-section. For me I had some nerve damage. Where the scar is, it is cool to the touch and it tingles when touch. Also like the rest of my pelvic area it is very painful to be touched. My surgery was to remove fast growing ovarian cysts. That was when my GYN saw I has stage 4 Endo and could not do anything. Took biopsy of tissues. One cyst ruptured. That was cleaned up. And then I was closed up.
