How Do I Ask For A Laparoscopy?
A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was supposedly diagnosed with endometriosis last week after suffering from painful pelvic pain, painful intercourse, and problems with my bowels amongst other issues. There was no mention of a laparoscopy but to just go on birth control. I am not a fan of both control and want to be certain that it is endometriosis. I want to push for a laparoscopy. Anyone have advice on this? Thanks!

laparascopy is the best way to find out for sure. if your doctor didnt mention it then you do. with this disease you need to fight, fight everyday and dont give up. If you feel that you want some form of treatment such as surgery then fight for it. My theory is that you pay them to help you. my first laparascopy was full of worry, fear, and hope. You need to know what you have and not give up. Birth control will slow it down from coming back but its not a way to diagnose it. The recovery isnt too bad. Its something new if you have never had surgery before but its a very common surgery and after you heal you'll be relieved to know the truth.

Hi there! I'm new to this site, but I feel like I can help with this post already! I'm currently on day 2 recovery from my laparascopy. At the time of possible diagnosis, my doctor told me that is the only way they really can diagnose it for sure, but also told me about alternative treatment options (such as birth control) if I didn't want to go through surgery. I told her that I'd rather have the surgery to be sure first, before I start taking any medications.
Maybe you could tell yours the same?
Hope this helps! Hugs!!

Ive always been told that a laparoscopy is the only way to diagnose Endometriosis and would say to your doctor that going on birth control would be just masking the problem, not actually dealing with it..you want to know, one, do you actually have endo. Two, exactly where the endo is and how bad it is and what you can do to help treat it. Demand a laparoscopy.. Good luck! X

My doc said I could try bc pills to see if it would help but since I want to try having kids in the next year or so , that after my MRI , surgery will prob be the way to go

I agree Laparoscopy is the only way they can do to verify that it is endometriosis. I would either get another opinion or make sure that your doctor is one that specializes in surgery as well. My regular OB did not preform surgery and that is why they didn't do it right away. He recommended a OB Surgeon and that doctor had no issue at all with doing a Laparoscopy to diagnose endo. Don't give up all doctors are different find one that will work for you.
