I'm new here. I have yet to be diagnosed with endo. I'm having a laparoscopy done on the 30th. I've never had surgery before and I'm extremely nervous, (pretty much freaking out thanks to my anxiety.) I'm not sure what to expect, or how I should prepare myself, physically and mentally. I know the hospital is sending me a packet in the mail for prep but I haven't received it yet. I've been suffering symptoms since Jan 2016. But since we set the appointment for the surgery I've been having a lot… read more
I just had my first lap in June and was an emotional wreck prior to it, for weeks. I was most scared about the anesthesia. When I woke up, I was really sick like I expected (probably due to the anesthesia, I have a family history of women reacting badly to it), but I felt kind of silly being so worried. I was out for 4 hours and had no clue. The tiny OR was really clean. All of the staff were very friendly. And those there for me, my mom, sister, and bf, all felt really obnoxiously sympathetic and awkward for me because they had been shown internal pictures of me after I was wheeled out and expected to wake up at any time. My mom was 3rd stage endometrial cancer at one point and could not stop treating me like a baby just after seeing my ovary stuck to things and a cyst removed. Have a look at my story and updates, I was in your position not very long ago, feeling very similar. I hope you will find it reassuring x
First surgery is always the freakiest. I cried like a baby right before they took me to the operating room for my first surgery. Ive now had a total of 6 surgeries, 4 for endo and 2 for other issues. Here are my tips: the day after the surgery is usually the worst. Take the pain meds. Have stool softners handy cuz the pain meds can make u constipatex. Drink lots of water to keep hydrated and to flush the anesthesia out of your body. The gas pain is horribke after. Gas-x will help as well as walkng. Don't overdue the walking but try a lil bit if u can. U will probably walk hunched over for a few days. Getting in and out of bed can be difficult, so if u have a recliner, live in that, its much easier. Keep a pillow over your abdomen, that will help with moving around. If u tend to get nauseated easily ask your dr fr anti nausea meds. Rest rest rest!!!! Dont push your recovery. The best thing is to rest.
